OAHS 5th Annual Health Fair - Save the Date!
The 5th Annual Health Fair sponsored by Ortonville Area Health Services will be held on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at the Ortonville Armory. Times of the event are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be many exhibitors on hand to showcase health related topics.

Vascular health screenings will also be available to help identify those individuals with vascular disease. The tests are painless and do not require undressing, exercising or drawing blood. Three types of ultrasounds will be available: Stroke/Carotid Artery Ultrasond (checks for narrowing or blockage of main arteries in your neck that could lead to stroke), Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Ultrasound (checks for enlargement or a bulge within the artery called an aneurysm - this is highly hereditary and potentially fatal), and an Ankle-Branchial Index (checks blood flow in the legs which could indicate a higher risk of heart disease). These tests are available by appointment only by calling 320-839-4000 and cost $25 per test or all three for $50.

Also in conjunction with the Health Fair, a Shopping Extravaganza will be showcased. Vendors will be set up from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

 OAHS Implements One Chart

Monday, August 1, 2011 brought another change to Ortonville Area Health Services and the patients we serve as we implemented our electronic health record system. The federal government has mandated that all medical records be electronic by 2014 and there is speculation that if any given medical providers records are not electronic by 2015 they will be subject to penalties.
Your records will be documented and stored in an electronic format. The electronic health record will also change the system that we use to schedule appointments, and bill for services. The Electronic Health Record program is developed by a company called Epic. Epic reported that about 1 of 4 physicians in the US will use Epic once their current rollouts are complete. Statistics reveal that 9 out of 10 healthcare patients will have their health record stored in an Epic (EpicCare) electronic record system.
OAHS will be using the same electronic medical records software that many of the major healthcare providers in Minnesota are using including but not limited to: Park Nicollet, Methodist, Allina Hospitals and Clinics, Fairview Hospitals and Clinics, Centra Care, North Memorial. A small rural facility like OAHS would not be able to purchase the product from Epic; however because of our affiliation with Sanford, we are able to use this product that would otherwise not be available to us
